“Let Care & Compassion be our Legacy”
The Cost of Caring
Visitors to The Llama Sanctuary, are greeted by anywhere from 40 to 80 resident llamas and alpacas, many of whom require special care. Most of the llama and alpaca residents don’t like Gemmy, who is completely blind, but new arrival Eddie has taken a shine to her! Thoreau doesn’t have any teeth and he has to be given special feed to sustain him, but away from all the others who would steal it! Mr Brownie, Amigo, Heidi, Rico, Moji, Rya and many others are elderly and very thin and require special feed several times a day. Calypso, Boutique and others are overweight and need a completely different feeding regime.
This is just a tiny representation of the numerous challenges that make up the day-to-day life at The Llama Sanctuary and all of this requires a lot of money. Typical operating expenses average out to around $1600 per llamas/alpaca each year. The Llama Sanctuary recently opened CATS2, a dedicated feline socializing and re-homing facility. Come and meet the cats too!
