The Cost of Caring
Visitors to The Llama Sanctuary are greeted by anywhere from 40 to 80 resident llamas and alpacas, many of whom require special care.
Gemmy was born blind and most of the llama and alpaca residents don’t like her. However, she now has a boyfriend Eddie! Thoreau doesn’t have any teeth and requires special feed several times a day. The Refirmary and Intensive Care Unit is always busy, with many llamas like Heidi, Rico, Afrika and Rya requiring special care throughout each day. Gypsy has severe arthritis and needs help to stand up. Calypso, Boutique and others are overweight and need a completely different feeding regime.
This is just a tiny representation of the numerous challenges that make up the day-to-day life at The Llama Sanctuary and all of this requires a lot of money. Typical operating expenses average out to around $1600 per llamas/alpaca each year.
CATS2 is a dedicated feline socializing and re-homing facility, recently opened at The Llama Sanctuary. Come and meet the cats too!
