Giving Options

Give a One-Time Gift

The Llama Sanctuary Society is continuously expanding in size and scope.  The list of building and fencing projects to be completed seems endless; equipment is in constant need of upgrade, repair or replacement; hay and feed, power and utilities, rent and insurance, the cost of operating a large animal sanctuary goes on.

Regular Monthly Donations

Regular monthly donations are an absolute blessing to any charitable organization.  Knowing that at least a portion of the rent or feed is covered each month is a tremendous blessing!

A Lifetime Gift

Remembering The Llama Sanctuary in your Will or Trust not only helps to secure a future for The Sanctuary and all of her residents, but can be very beneficial for your financial estate. Specialist organizations like Abundance Canada can help you choose which method of gifting is most appropriate for your situation. Let them know you wish your gift to go to The Llama Sanctuary Society (registered charity #786315069RR0001)

More Than Money

Llama Sanctuary Wish List

Want to direct your donation to something specific?  We love that too.  You can browse the Llama Sanctuary Wish List and shop for the needed items yourself.  Of course, Amazon Online makes shopping for gifts so easy, but there are other stores too.  And maybe, you have one of the items in the shed that you no longer use.

Get Creative

The Llama Sanctuary Gift Shoppe welcomes creative gifts that can be sold in the shop to raise funds.  Do you crochet, needle felt or paint?  Whatever your craft, put your talent to work by creating llama-themed or cat-themed gifts and goodies that can be sold to raise funds.

Start Your Own Fundraiser

Recently a class of youngsters from a local school sent a donation of $250 to The Llama Sanctuary.  They raised this money themselves by organizing their own fundraiser: bottling and selling pickles!  What a terrific idea and what a generous gift of love, time and creativity.  We can help organize the perfect online fundraising platform as well, if you wish, allowing you to all payment methods.

Donations to The Llama Sanctuary are tax deductible!

With Cash

Cash is still King!  Most hay producers request cash on collection/delivery.  Cash gifts pay the bills, buy the feed, oil the machine.  They literally make the wheels go round.

eTransfer

If you bank in Canada, eTransfers are quick and inexpensive.  They show up in The Llama Sanctuary account within minutes.  Donate to: support@llamasanctuary.com

Cryptocurrency

Llamas are popular in the crypto world. Don’t ask me why, but they are!  The Llama Sanctuary welcomes crypto donations, has partnered with several crypto/NFT organizations over the years and welcomes new opportunities.

Paypal

Paypal has been around for years and still offers a great service.  Send Paypal donations to: https://paypal.me/llamasanctuary

By Check

Checks are awesome too.  Although we live in a technological age, we understand that many people still like to send money by paper check.  I still remember looking at my check book to see how much money was in my account.  Mail to: The Llama Sanctuary, PO Box 10050, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 3B9

The Llama Sanctuary seeks a replacement for the vintage 2-horse trailer used for difficult terrain

Equipment

At present, The Llama Sanctuary can only really utilize 10 acres of the 23 acres on lease.  Considerable work is required to restore and revitalize the soil, grazing, fencing, hedgerows etc.  The neighbouring field drains onto the other 13 acres, which is soggy, scrubby and filled with daisies, ragwort, hawthorn and snowberry.  The Llama Sanctuary welcomes assistance with some of this work.  Donations of time, expertise, materials and machinery.  For example: a hydraulic tilting flail mower, harrows, manure spreader, seed drill, post pounder, 1 ton mini-excavator for the thousands of feet of drainage.  The Sanctuary also urgently needs to replace the 50 year old 2-horse/llama trailer we use for extracting llamas from the more challenging terrain!

To make in-kind donations:

  • New barn construction
  • Veranda & weather wall on 2 other shelters
  • shade cloth wrapping to prevent drifting snow in barns
  • Beet pulp – pelleted or shreds
  • Soft grass pellets – Surecrop 16%
  • Hay cubes – alfalfa/timothy
  • Llama text feed
  • 2-horse trailer: $25,000
  • Hydraulic Tilt Flail Mower – $5,000
  • Harrows, seed drill, roller, muck spreader, post pounder

About Your Donations, Where & How They are used

It’s wonderful to give, but at the same time, it’s nice to be certain that your donation is being used effectively.  The first step is to come and visit The Llama Sanctuary.  Take a tour with the llamas and hear their stories.  See for yourself the difference that a little care can make in the lives of animals who have experienced neglect and hunger.  Experience the joy of what actually happens here

Operating Costs

Operating Costs are the predictable monthly expenses of existence, like rent, power, water, communications and insurance.  This is the sum that we must have in the bank each month to operate and this is the greatest cause of anxiety.

Hay & Feed

2024 has seen the biggest increase in llama numbers and the biggest hay bill ever.  The hay bill is due in one narrow window of time, so a specific fundraising event is necessary to ensure we have the funds to pay as soon as the hay is harvested.  Bagged feed however is required year round for the elderly, the underweight and the toothless.  The llamas munch through around 4 tons spread out over the year, which adds up to about $4300.  Minerals and salt also add another $400 to the bill

Infrastructure & Equipment

The Llama Sanctuary has lots of machinery and equipment, as well as a lot of fencing and buildings.  Infrastructure is another very hungry beast with repairs, maintenance, acquisitions and improvements gobbling up a lot of dollars every year.

Rescue Operations

Most actual llama rescue operations do not attract donations or assistance from those involved.  They often involve fuel and vehicle costs, veterinary expenses and sometimes infrastructure changes to accommodate the new arrivals.  A typical rescue costs between $500 and $1000 to undertake.
